David Hemblen

David Hemblen plays Jonathan Doors, the enigmatic founder and (former) leader of the Resistance in Earth: Final Conflict.

Hemblen has had a lengthy career in the theater, film and television as an actor and director.  He has appeared in more than 20 TV series and 30 films, including five of Atom Egoyan's acclaimed features.  His most recent film for Egoyan was the 1997 Cannes Grande Prix winner The Sweet Hereafter.  Previously, Hemblen received a Genie nomination as best lead actor in Egoyan's Family Viewing.  Other feature credits include Fly Away Home, Maximum Risk, Roger Spottiswood Mesmer and David Cronenberg's M Butterfly.

Among his many television performances, Hemblen has starred in an episode of the Trilogy/ATLANTIS series The Outer Limits and has appeared in the ATLANTIS series TekWar.  He has also had major roles in the series Lonesome Dove, Goosebumps, Robcop, Forever Knight (episode "Sons of Belial") and the network special The Room, directed by Robert Altman.

He also has done some work on the series La Femme Nikita (as George).

Hemblen's stage career includes more than 70 productions as an actor/director at major Canadian theaters, including the Stratford Festival and four seasons at the renowned Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake.  For his portrayal of Dr. Astrov's in Toronto's Tarragon Theater production of Uncle Vanya, Hemblen received a Dora nomination for best leading actor.

Born in London, England, Hemblen grew up in Toronto where he pursued a classical education before turning to theater.  He received an M.A. in English and was working towards a Ph.D. in Medieval Studies when he was spotted during a rehearsal of a university production by Clifford Williams of the Royal Shakespeare Company.  Hemblen was offered a season at Toronto's Alexandra Theater and " that was it--I never got my Ph.D.."

Hemblen lives most of the year in Toronto with his two dogs and makes an annual winter visit to his second home in the south of France.  His daughter Kate is also an actress.

*Some other information I found out.  David aparently had a small role in the movie "Tommy Boy" as Archer.  I was watching the credits and saw his name, so I guess it is the same person.  Part of the movie was filmed in Toronto.*
