"Sandoval's my father!"
"A surrogate."
Liam's eyes flamed as Renee stared at him icily, still recovering from the news about his parentage. "That's not true," he rasped.
Renee rolled her eyes, and Liam had to hold back the sudden urge to lash out. "You just said that this... alien... used Sandoval's body. He's not really your father."
"He is."
"You're deluding yourself," Renee snapped. "The first thing Sandoval would do if he found out is skrill you dead, Kincaid." She had never called him by his last name before, and Liam flinched at the sound of it. She leaned forward until her pale face was almost touching his flushed one.
"He's not your father," she said deliberately.
Liam looked away from her, hardening his face. "He's all I have," he said hoarsely. "What would you do?"
Renee drew back a little, an indescribable expression crossing her face for a moment, then vanishing. "Fine," she said coldly. "On your head be it, for the people he'll kill in the future."
Liam flinched again as she stalked out. Augur watched for a moment, then flitted into the back of the Flat Planet. Liam bowed his head and thought of Sandoval...
