Note from Author:  My first Renee Palmer fic... very short, probably not very good, since Renee is a new character and I don't have a major handle on her yet.

**********

Renee watched the two men as they sprinted away. The shadows shrouded her from sight, clothing her in darkness that hid her as she watched the night world go by. Her favorite time, secretive and hidden.

They would probably get the rest of the way on their own. She slowly pulled her leather jacket around herself and began to skim down the fire escape, her heeled shoes flying across them like birds on the clouds. The shoes would be clumsy for another woman, but Renee had long experience in this sort of thing. A tiny smile touched her lips as she ran into the alley.

The car was long, low and sleek. Dark as night, dark as her coat, dark as she sometimes wished she were, so she could blend in. She slipped a gloved hand into her pocket and pressed the remote's single button. The driver's door slid aside.

She jumped in, slamming the door shut after herself as she twisted the key, sending the engine purring into action.

As the car sped away, she thought with a wince back to the ambush. She had hoped that Doors and Kincaid would have had the presence of mind to run for it, but evidently they hadn't.

Now, Doors was a prisoner. That was not good...

And that smug Taelon dictator was going to make things infinitely more complex. Events were moving fast. Not too fast, but fast nonetheless.

Renee's agile mind spun through idea after idea, discarding them as she analyzed them, sought out flaws, tossed them away. And then one came to her. A good one. Not flawless, but she knew the best she could do when she saw it.

A tiny smile crossed her face, and she cocked her head to one side, humming a little tune to herself.
